History

La Maison Le Prélude Inc. has been incorporated since October 1981. After a study that confirmed the need to have such a resource on Laval territory, La Maison opened its doors in May 1982, thanks to a Canada Summer Project. In September of the same year, a grant from the Ministry of Social Affairs allowed the hiring of a permanent staff. La Maison Le Prélude has now existed for more than 35 years.

Over the years, all those involved in La Maison have worked to consolidate the services offered to the community in order to achieve all its objectives. The administrators and volunteers have been creative and put tremendous effort and energy into finding solutions and meeting the needs of women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. The financial support of our donors remains essential to maintain a high quality of services and allow us to go further.

Conscious and alert to the social problem of domestic violence, La Maison Le Prélude is present in its community. Its involvement continues through various organizations, round tables and associations. Le Prélude is, among others, co-founder and active member of the round table of domestic violence and sexual assault of Laval.

During its 35 years of existence, La Maison Le Prélude has established its credibility and developed a great expertise in domestic violence.

In fact, our resource has won three times recognition from the people and business community of Laval. On two occasions in 1990 and 2002, La Maison received awards from Dunamis and Méritas Collaboration entrepreneurship collectif. These awards have confirmed that La Maison shines since its debut. Volunteers who have been involved over the years have also increased our shining. Since 1986, The Tribute to the Volunteers of the city of Laval has chosen 10 very active person within our organization to receive the recognition of "Volunteer of the Year".

Since the opening, nearly 8000 women and children have crossed our doors, to find a safe, confidential and warm shelter. The years go by, but the needs of the women and children we welcome do not diminish. Awareness, prevention, consultation and intervention remain the key words of our actions.
